A Sphynx Looks Away, but the Peanut Butter on His Nose Tells All

AI imagesphynxcaught in the actpeanut butter

There is peanut butter on his nose, on his chin, and in the wrinkles near his whiskers. A grey Sphynx sits next to an open jar on a cluttered kitchen table, his huge ears pointed upward and his eyes turned politely away, with all the dignity he can gather. A bowl of bananas, a houseplant, a blue dish towel, and a spoon smeared with a swirl of spread complete the picture.

Sphynx cats are energetic and curious, and they often follow their people around the kitchen. They also tend to have big appetites and big personalities. A peanut butter jar is hard to resist because of the strong, rich smell. In small amounts plain peanut butter is not usually harmful to cats, but it is sticky, high in fat, and may be hard for them to swallow, and some types contain a sweetener called xylitol, which is very dangerous to pets. Always check the ingredients, and call your vet at once if you think your cat has eaten something with xylitol. Keep jars sealed and in a cupboard, and wipe off any sticky spread from his face with a damp cloth. Because Sphynx skin is bare, a gentle wipe is also good for his skin.

He is keeping his eyes on the far wall, as though sticky evidence were somebody else's problem. We admire the effort, and the nose tells the rest.
