A Boston Terrier Sits Politely Beside a Cushion That Used to Be Whole
Stuffing is everywhere. It pours out of a burst cushion in cloudy clumps, and torn fabric hangs from the seams in long strips, with a few tufts scattered across the wooden floor. Next to the damage, a brindle and white Boston Terrier sits straight and tall, his big ears pricked and his dark eyes turned away from the mess, with a look of pure, polite innocence. A grey sofa, a potted plant, and a pair of glasses sit quietly behind him.
Boston Terriers are friendly, lively dogs with tuxedo-like markings, and they are known as the American Gentleman. They are smart and affectionate, but they also have a lot of energy, and a bored Boston will find ways to entertain himself. Chewing and tearing are common ways dogs release extra energy or anxiety. Because Bostons have short noses, they can overheat easily, so choose short bursts of play rather than long, intense runs, and provide water and shade. Give him sturdy chew toys, a food puzzle, and a daily walk to keep him busy. If he swallows stuffing or fabric, which can cause a blockage, call your vet. Keep soft cushions out of reach when you leave him alone until he has settled into a routine.
He sits there like a very well-behaved dog at a very messy event. Nobody is fooled, but the posture is excellent.
