A Maltese Turned the Morning Mail Into a Cozy Little Nest
The little white Maltese has built herself a nest from torn envelopes and shredded paper, and she sits at the center of it with a cheerful, closed-mouth smile. Her silky coat blends into the pale scraps around her, so she almost seems to be made of paper herself. A pair of slippers waits near the doorway, and a pile of unopened junk mail seems to have been unopened for good.
Maltese dogs are gentle, playful companions who have been lap dogs for centuries, and they love to be near their people. Even so, small dogs get bored too, and the daily mail dropping through a slot is a natural invitation. If mail gets torn up regularly, a box or basket placed high up can protect important papers. Some inks and glossy papers are not meant to be eaten, so if a dog swallows a lot of it, talk to your vet. Games of fetch and a soft chew toy can provide a better target for that urge to tear things.
We will call her Snowball. She seems very pleased with her decorating and does not look worried at all. Her whiskers are tidy and her eyes are bright. If anyone is waiting for an important letter, it has probably become part of the scenery, but it is hard to say, since nobody is going to ask her.
