A Calico Cat Got Tangled in Yarn and Pretended Not to Notice
Strands of pink, cream, and lavender yarn wind around the calico's body from her ears to her paws, forming a loose web across the wooden floor. A woven knitting basket lies on its side behind her, with two round balls of yarn still waiting nearby. The cat keeps her face turned away from the camera, her ears slightly pinned, and her golden eyes fixed on a faraway spot. She is trying very hard to look innocent.
Cats are drawn to yarn because it moves, rolls, and flutters just like prey. Playing with it seems harmless, but string and yarn can be a serious danger if swallowed, because they can twist in the intestines and require surgery. If your cat eats yarn, or you see a strand hanging from her mouth, do not pull it, and call your vet right away. Store yarn in a closed container and offer a safe wand toy with a long, sturdy string.
A cat in this situation, maybe named Patches, is hardly in a position to deny anything. She is wrapped like a gift and sits perfectly still, and the yarn lies in beautiful loops around her. If she had hands, she would probably be knitting an alibi. The sweater will have to wait until the cat is free. The cat, at least, is cozy, and the yarn has never looked so well arranged.
