A Gray Persian Sits Proudly Among the Fallen Paperback Books
A wooden bookshelf has tipped sideways, and dozens of paperbacks lie in a tumble across the floor, some open, some stacked in skewed piles. A fluffy gray Persian sits at the center of the pile, with round amber eyes and a small, wry smile. Her fur is thick and smoky, and her paws are tucked in beside her. A lamp, a plant, and a pile of folded blankets sit in the background.
Cats love to climb, and shelves and bookcases are an irresistible challenge. But a heavy shelf can tip if a cat climbs it, which can be dangerous for both pets and people. It is a good idea to attach tall furniture to the wall, and to offer a tall cat tree with sturdy platforms so the cat has her own place to climb. Persians are calm, so they tend to climb less than other breeds, but even a gentle cat may decide to explore a shelf.
The Persian sits among the books as though she has been reading them all. She seems proud, perhaps a bit scholarly, and quite calm about the fallen shelf. The library will need reorganizing, but at the moment she is the only one in the room who looks completely relaxed. A page may even have been bookmarked by her paw. It is a quiet, comfortable ending to what was probably a very loud crash.
