The Bernese Mountain Dog Found a Box That Was Slightly Too Small
The box looked big enough, until it was not. A tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog named Teddy sits wedged inside a cardboard box with the flaps bent back around him, his black, white and rust coat squeezed into the corners. He looks up with soft, hopeful eyes, as if asking for help without actually saying so. A spoon and a few kitchen towels lie on the floor beside him.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are big, affectionate dogs bred to work on farms in the Swiss Alps. They are known for being calm, friendly and devoted to their families, which makes them lovely companions. They are also big enough that a box meant for cereal is not really a comfortable fit. Many dogs, like cats, love to squeeze into snug spaces because it feels safe and cozy.
Boxes can be a harmless bit of fun when you supervise, but a stuck dog can panic, so help out promptly and stay calm. Cardboard is not good to eat, and any food packaging should be tossed out of reach. A thick, fluffy coat like a Berner's also makes the dog warm, so shade and water matter in summer.
Teddy does not complain. He sits patiently in his cardboard castle, big brown eyes shining, waiting for a friendly rescue and maybe a snack for his trouble.
