The Jack Russell Left a Trail of Muddy Paw Prints Across the Bed
The bedspread used to be clean, and now it has a pattern of tiny muddy paw prints. A white and tan Jack Russell Terrier named Dash sits in the middle of them with his ears pulled back and his head slightly low, looking toward the camera with a sheepish expression. Pillows and a blanket are rumpled behind him, and a few clothes sit on a chair beside the bed.
Jack Russell Terriers are energetic, intelligent little dogs that love running, digging and exploring outdoors. All that activity means mud, and mud means paw prints. They are also confident enough to jump on furniture without asking, which many owners learn quickly. A daily routine of exercise and a paw-wiping station at the door can help keep the bed clean.
A simple habit can help: keep a towel or a damp cloth near the door and wipe all four paws before your dog comes in. Trimming the fur between the pads helps mud wash away faster. Washable blankets or a throw on top of the bed can make cleanup easy. If your dog has cracked pads or a sore paw, talk to your vet.
Dash sits with a calm, sorry look, as if the bed has always been this way. Still, with those ears back, it is easy to see he knows he has crossed a line, even if it was a very comfortable line.
