A Basset Hound Turned the Wrapping Paper Into a Cozy Nest
It looks like a present exploded, and the Basset Hound in the middle is not about to explain. A tricolor dog named Gus sits in a nest of crinkled kraft paper with a flowery pattern, his long ears flopping on both sides and his serious, dark eyes aimed straight at the camera. A lamp glows in the corner, a basket sits by the sofa and the paper reaches far across the floor.
Basset Hounds are patient, sweet-tempered dogs with a sense of humor that shows in their droopy faces. They love comfort and a good nap, and they will happily turn a pile of paper into a bed. Wrapping paper is crinkly, which is exciting for dogs, and it smells like the person who handled the gift. That scent mix makes it hard to resist.
Around the holidays, it helps to keep wrapping paper, ribbons and bows out of reach. Ribbon and string can cause serious intestinal trouble if swallowed, and tape can stick to fur. Small bits of paper are usually harmless, but call your vet if your dog eats a lot or seems unwell. A basket with chew toys can give a hound something fun to do while gifts are wrapped.
Gus remains relaxed in the middle of his crunchy kingdom. Whether or not there was a present inside, he seems to think the paper was the best part.
