A Black Lab Decided the Dishwasher Was the Best Seat in the Kitchen
Open door, rack pulled all the way out, and a black Labrador Retriever sitting right in the middle of it. His shiny coat blends with the shadowy interior, his brown eyes look up with an earnest, slightly guilty expression, and his front paws rest on the wires like a very tall passenger. A kitchen counter and a blue cloth are visible nearby, so the scene is a surprising little puzzle about how a big dog fit inside.
Labradors are famous for their love of food and their willingness to investigate anything that smells like dinner. A dishwasher full of dirty plates is basically a buffet, so dogs may lick plates or try to get in. This can be unsafe. Sharp knives, forks, and broken glass can injure a dog, and dishwasher detergent can be harmful if swallowed. Closing the door after loading, keeping pods locked away, and teaching a firm leave it cue are all good steps. If your dog swallows detergent or anything sharp, call your vet right away. Labs also love a job, so a puzzle feeder can help keep that nose busy.
He looks very proud of his clever climb and just a bit unsure whether it was a good idea. The kitchen floor is clean for now, and he is more than ready to be rinsed off and praised for his curiosity.
