A Calico With a Peanut Butter Nose Still Thinks She Got Away With It
Her nose is completely covered in peanut butter, and a calico cat looks straight ahead with a very small, very guilty smile. The jar stands open beside her on the counter, its sides scraped and swirled, and a lid sits nearby. Her orange, black, and white patches glow in the light, her whiskers are dotted with crumbs, and her green eyes are wide. She appears to be trying to look dignified while wearing a golden mask.
Cats are attracted to the smell of fat and protein, and peanut butter is rich in both. A lick is rarely dangerous, but some peanut butters contain xylitol, a sweetener that is highly toxic to dogs and best avoided around any pets. Check labels, and call your vet if a pet eats something with xylitol. Even regular peanut butter is high in calories and not an ideal snack for cats. Calico cats are known for their vivid coats, which are almost always female, and many people describe them as spirited and confident. Keeping jars sealed and stored in a cabinet helps keep a clever paw out.
She will probably ask for the jar again tomorrow. For now, she is thoroughly pleased with herself, and the sticky nose will need a gentle wipe. It is hard not to admire such a confident taster. In her opinion, a jar that smells this good is practically an open invitation.
