Who Left the Dishes? The Ragdoll Is Sitting Right in Them

Of all the places in the house, the blue point Ragdoll chose the sink. She sits on a stack of dirty plates with her gray tail draped over the edge, a half-empty glass and a fork beside her, looking calmly out of frame. Sunlight from the window falls on her pale cream chest, and a houseplant and a folded dish towel sit on the counter behind her.

Cats love sinks for good reasons. The smooth surface stays cool, the sides make a snug little bowl, and there is often a dripping tap to watch. Sinks also put a cat at the center of the action, right where the people are busy. Many cats simply like being near their humans while staying a few inches out of the way, or so they believe.

If your own cat likes to perch among the dishes, keep an eye out for sharp knives, glass and leftover cleaning products, and rinse any plates she has been licking. Foods like onions, garlic and anything with xylitol can be harmful to pets, so it is best not to let a cat sample leftovers. Talk to your vet if you ever suspect she has eaten something unsafe.

Ragdolls are famous for being laid-back, soft and affectionate, often going limp in a person's arms, which is how they got their name. This one is clearly relaxed, even in a sink full of crockery. She would like everyone to know she is not the one who left the dishes.
