A Ginger Tabby Sits in the Empty Pizza Box Looking Wide-Eyed
The pizza box is open, and the pizza is gone. In the middle of the cardboard sits a ginger tabby with round golden eyes, his white chest and pink nose turned straight up toward us. There is not a crumb in sight, only a flat brown square and a very innocent cat sitting right in the center like a candle on a cake.
Cats are attracted to warm food boxes, since the cardboard holds heat and the smell is strong. The empty box also makes a perfect seat, because cats love to sit inside squares, boxes and even tape outlines on the floor. This habit is so common that people have given it a nickname, and it works just as well on a pizza box.
Pizza itself is not a good snack for cats. Cheese can upset their stomachs, and toppings such as onion and garlic can be harmful to them. Cats need meat-based food, so human leftovers should stay out of reach. If your cat did eat something with onion or garlic, call your vet for advice. In the meantime, keep boxes closed and food covered.
Orange tabbies are known for their friendly, food-loving personalities, though every cat is an individual. This one sits proudly in the empty box, looking remarkably unbothered. He claims he was only keeping it warm. If the box had any pizza in it, he certainly does not remember.
