A Fluffy Persian Looks Up Guiltily From What Was a Teddy Bear
The teddy bear has had a rough day. Its tummy is torn open, white stuffing is spread across the floor in soft little clouds and one arm looks ready to fall off. Right beside it, the cream Persian sits with her head tilted back and her golden eyes looking up with a guilty expression. A laundry basket sits behind her in the warm light.
Persians are fluffy, sweet-faced cats with flat noses and long, silky coats. They are known for a peaceful, gentle manner, though even calm cats can get a sudden burst of energy. A soft toy is a lot like a small animal, and cats may kick, bite and rip it apart as a form of hunting play.
The stuffing can be a problem if it is swallowed, since it does not digest and can block the intestines. After an incident like this, collect every bit of fluff and any plastic eyes, and check the room. If your cat has eaten the filling, or seems tired, stops eating or throws up, call your vet. A sturdier cat toy without small parts is a safer option.
This Persian does not look like a villain, though. She looks like a cat who has been through a lot. The teddy bear may have been a favorite, but in her mind, it was an adversary. She won, and she is a little concerned about it.
