An Australian Shepherd Faces the Broken Vase and Fallen Roses
A blue merle Australian Shepherd sits among shards of a broken vase and scattered pink roses, looking worried. His coat is a mix of silver, black, and white, his eyes are a pale, sharp blue, and his head is turned away. Rose petals lie across the floor like small pink flags.
Behind him is a bright room with a sofa, a plant, a basket of toys, and jackets hanging by the door. Light from a big window makes the floor glow, and fresh green leaves are strewn among the pieces. A single rose stands upright near his paw, somehow spared from the chaos, a small bright survivor on the floor.
Australian Shepherds are intelligent, athletic herding dogs that need a lot of exercise and a job to do. A bored Aussie can become destructive, or can run around indoors in a way that knocks over a vase with a swish of the tail. Daily runs, training games, and puzzle toys help a lot. After a vase breaks, keep your dog out of the room until every shard is swept up, since glass can cut paws. Some flowers are toxic to pets, so check any bouquet before leaving it within reach, and call your vet if your dog chews flowers.
The Aussie knows he is in trouble. A tail like his has caused more than one floral emergency.
