Yorkie Versus Couch Cushion: The Cushion Did Not Win
Tiny and fluffy, the blue and tan Yorkshire Terrier sits with her head turned toward the camera and her ears perked, looking utterly innocent. Next to her, a beige couch cushion has been chewed open, with stuffing spilling out in soft, fluffy clumps across the cushion, the floor, and the sofa behind it. Bits of foam are scattered all around, and a gray blanket lies folded on the couch. The sunlight in the room makes the golden fluff look almost like confetti, and the little dog sits right in the middle of it.
Yorkshire Terriers may be small, but they have big personalities and the energy of a much larger dog. They were originally bred to hunt rats in mills, which gives many Yorkies a strong chewing and digging instinct. Because they are small, they can get bored quickly, so toys, short walks, and training games help use that energy. Cushion stuffing and foam should not be swallowed, since they can cause blockages, so it is best to clean up quickly and talk to your vet if you are worried. A good chew toy can offer a safe outlet for those little teeth.
The Yorkie does not seem bothered by the mess. She looks like the star of a very short drama, one where the pillow never stood a chance. The living room will need some vacuuming, but the tiny face in the middle of the snowy fluff is difficult to be cross with.
