A Boxer Sits in the Middle of a Lake That Used to Be a Water Bowl
Water is everywhere. The blue bowl lies tipped on its side, and a wide puddle has spread across the floor beneath the brindle Boxer sitting patiently in the middle of it. Droplets sparkle on the boards, a doormat sits behind him, and a plant waits by the window. His ears are folded back, his wrinkled brow is creased with worry, and his dark eyes look up as if to say that the whole thing was an accident. His jowls droop sadly, and his paws are damp.
Boxers are energetic, goofy dogs that stay playful long into adulthood. Their enthusiasm can lead to knocked-over bowls and spilled water, especially during mealtimes or playtime. A heavy, wide-based bowl or a non-slip mat can help keep water in place, and refilling it regularly is important, since Boxers have short muzzles and can overheat in hot weather. Plenty of fresh water is part of good care for any dog. If your dog suddenly drinks far more than usual, mention it to your vet. And a quick towel-dry on the floor keeps slippery spots from hurting a bouncy dog.
The dog does not look proud of this. He looks like someone who just realized the ocean has to be cleaned up. Nobody can be upset for long when a face this droopy looks up, and the mop will take care of the rest.
