A gray Persian cat with amber eyes looks out between window blinds with thin cords looped around its fluffy body. 4 / 23

The Gray Persian Was Only Watching Birds. The Blinds Had Opinions.

Sunlight stripes the window, and a fluffy gray Persian sits with her paws pressed against the slats of the blinds. Thin white cords have looped across her chest and shoulders, wrapping her in a loose web, and her amber eyes stare out the window with great concentration, as if she would never notice a thing. A wooden shelf behind her holds books, a mug, a bundle of cables, and a folded gray towel. The whole scene is peaceful, except for the tangle of strings.

Cats love windows, and a sunny sill with a view of birds, squirrels, and passing cars is better than television. Blinds, however, can be risky for pets, because loose cords can wrap around a neck or limbs. Keeping cords short, tying them out of reach, or choosing cordless blinds protects curious cats and children. If your cat is tangled, stay calm and free her gently. A perch or cat tree by the window with a safe view can also give her somewhere to look out without disturbing the blinds. If she seems hurt, call your vet.

She does not look worried, only dignified. The strings are a small detail, and her gaze toward the world outside is far more important. In a moment, she will be free and acting as if nothing had happened, which is the most cat thing of all.
