A white Bichon Frise sits on a cluttered kitchen table beside a croissant, butter, jam, avocado toast and coffee. 2 / 32

Breakfast Was Served. The Bichon Frise Decided to Join the Menu.

The breakfast spread is still warm, and the guest of honor is a white Bichon Frise sitting right in the middle of it. A buttery croissant sits on a plate near his paws, crumbs are scattered across the wood, and an avocado half rests by the fork. Toast with jam, a bowl of berries and a mug of coffee wait nearby. The pup's curly, cloud-like coat is a little puffed up, and he is looking off to the side with great interest in the window, as though he has never met this table before. Let's say his name is Marshmallow.

Bichon Frises are cheerful, clever little dogs with a love of attention, and they are quick to learn which tricks win a laugh. That cleverness also means they notice when food is left unattended at counter height, especially when they can hop onto a chair first. Plenty of everyday breakfast foods are not safe for dogs. Coffee, caffeine, grapes and raisins, onions, and foods sweetened with xylitol are well known problems, and avocado is best avoided too. If your dog gets into something questionable, call your vet for advice rather than waiting to see what happens.

Marshmallow, of course, has no idea about any of that. He is sitting very straight, chin lifted, putting enormous effort into looking like part of the centerpiece. The croissant is the only thing that looks nervous. Somebody is going to need to make a second breakfast.
