The Husky Heard Someone Coming. His Eyes Said Everything.
The backyard looks like a parade passed through it. A black garbage bag has been torn open, and wrappers, paper scraps and a few bits of lettuce spread across the grass in every direction. Standing in the middle of it all is a black and white Siberian Husky, frozen with his pale blue eyes bulging at the camera. His mouth is closed in a tight line, and his ears are straight up. Behind him, a fence and a bright blue ball lie waiting. We'll call him Frost, and he has just been spotted.
Siberian Huskies are intelligent, energetic and independent dogs that were bred to work hard in cold climates. That mix means they can get into trouble quickly when bored, and they are known for being clever escape artists and enthusiastic scavengers. Trash can contain food scraps that can upset a dog's stomach, along with sharp or non-edible items, so a lidded can, a latched cabinet or a garage shelf is a smart choice. Daily exercise and mental challenges, such as puzzle toys and training games, help keep a husky from creating his own entertainment. If your dog eats something unusual, call your vet.
Frost looks like he might leave the lawn at any second. Instead he stays absolutely still, as if standing quietly makes him invisible. His blue eyes tell the whole story, and there is no hiding that kind of surprise.
