It Snowed in the Hallway. The Bernese Mountain Dog Looked Innocent.
Shreds of white paper cover the entire hallway floor, drifting up against the baseboards and clinging to the rug, and a large tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog sits in the middle of them. Little scraps of paper are stuck to his chest and chin, his rust-colored brows lift in worry, and his brown eyes look up and to the side. Behind him, a jacket hangs on the wall, a few pairs of shoes rest by the door, and a bright room waits at the far end. We'll call him Alpine, and he's the only one who knows how this happened.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, gentle, affectionate dogs originally bred as farm helpers in the Swiss Alps. They tend to be calm and loyal, and they love to be close to their families. They also have a thick double coat that sheds a lot and is happiest in cool weather. Young Bernese can be very playful and mouthy, and shredding paper is a normal outlet for puppy energy. Daily exercise, chew toys and plenty of company help keep them out of trouble. Rolls of paper are best stored out of reach, and if your dog swallows a lot, call your vet.
Alpine looks like a very large, very polite snowman. He is trying hard to appear dignified despite the confetti, and he nearly pulls it off. The hallway will take a while to sweep, but his gentle face makes it hard to stay upset for long.
