One Roll of Toilet Paper and a Black Maine Coon With Big Plans

AI imagemaine cooncaught in the actbathroom

Streamers of toilet paper hang across the bathroom in long loops, and a fluffy black Maine Coon sits on the edge of the tub, frozen with big yellow-green eyes pointing straight ahead. Rolls lie on the tub and the floor, the paper trails over the shower curtain and the tiled walls, and a heap of shreds covers the bath mat. The cat's feathery fur and tufted ears look dramatic against all the white. We'll call him Shadow, and he is clearly caught mid-performance.

Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, known for their shaggy coats, tufted ears and gentle, friendly nature, and they are often called gentle giants. They stay playful into adulthood, and a rolling roll of paper is the perfect toy. Cats love to bat and pounce on things that unspool, and the soft paper is satisfying to shred. Paper is usually harmless in small amounts, but swallowing a lot can be a problem, so ask your vet if you're concerned. A closed bathroom door, a ball with a bell, or a cat tree by the window can offer a better outlet for the hunting instinct.

Shadow stays perfectly still, hoping he looks like part of the decoration. His wide eyes say that he is as shocked as anyone by what happened. The bathroom will need some cleaning, and he will need a new toy that is not on the holder.
