A Tiny Pomeranian Climbed Right Onto the Breakfast Table
A full breakfast spread surrounds Nugget the orange Pomeranian: eggs and bacon on one plate, toast and butter beside it, a bowl of fresh berries, slices of avocado and a dish towel crumpled next to a knife. She sits upright on the table like a tiny fox queen, with her fluffy ruff, dark eyes and a faint look of surprise. A sprig of green is caught in her mouth. Cabinets, a window with plants and a rack of mugs fill the sunny kitchen behind her, and she acts as if she were invited.
Pomeranians are petite but bold dogs, bursting with confidence, and they often think they are much bigger than they are. They are intelligent and curious, and their small size lets them hop onto chairs and tables with ease. Many breakfast foods are not good for dogs. Bacon is salty and fatty, butter is rich, and avocado contains a substance that can upset some pets, so it is best not to share. Keep food away from table edges and give your dog its own spot, with a bed or stool to sit in during mealtimes. Training a reliable cue such as stay or settle can make mornings more peaceful. If your dog eats something worrying, call your vet for advice. A few minutes of play before breakfast may help a fluffy explorer.
Nugget will be lifted down to the floor with a small piece of her own kibble. The table is a fine stage, but it belongs to the humans.
