A Corgi Hopped Right Into the Open Dishwasher to Help Out

AI imagecorgidishwasherkitchen

Of all the places a Corgi might hide, Ziggy chose the dishwasher. The sable Corgi sits on the bottom rack with her ears pulled slightly back and her gaze directed off to the side, her fox-like face looking sheepish. The open door and tangled wire rack frame her like a window, and behind her are wooden cabinets, a green plant, a blue dish towel and a countertop full of dinner leftovers. It seems she heard the sound of dishes and wanted to help with the licking.

Corgis are cheerful, clever herding dogs with short legs and big personalities. Originally bred in Wales to drive cattle, they are sturdy, energetic and loud, with a talent for finding mischief. Their long backs and short legs mean it is best to keep them at a healthy weight and avoid too much jumping from furniture. Dogs love to lick dishes because of lingering food smells, but dishwashers are hazardous. Sharp knives, detergent and hot surfaces can all injure a pet, so close the door whenever you step away, and never run the cycle without checking inside. Pre-rinsing dishes is no excuse to leave the dishwasher open. If your dog licks detergent, call your vet right away. Puzzle toys with a bit of dog-safe filling can satisfy that licking urge.

Ziggy will be lifted out and given her own bowl to lick. The shiny rack was a fine seat, but not for long.
