A Beagle Climbed Into the Laundry Basket and Tossed Out All the Clothes
Clean laundry has been pulled out of the hamper in every direction, and Scout the lemon and white Beagle is sitting in the middle of the basket as if it were his own personal throne. His long ears hang to the sides and his dark eyes gaze upward, wearing a tiny frown of guilt. Towels, jeans and sweaters drape over the wicker edge and spill onto the floor. Behind him a washing machine, a coat on a hook and a leafy plant stand in a blue-walled room.
Beagles are friendly, curious scent hounds originally bred to track rabbits, and they love to explore with their noses. Laundry is full of scent, especially if it smells like their favorite people, and a pile of soft clothes makes an ideal nest. They are social, so they may also choose a basket just to be near the action. If your dog loves to burrow into clothes, make sure they do not chew or swallow socks and other small items, which can cause blockages, and call your vet if they do. A dog bed with a worn T-shirt tucked inside can satisfy the urge to snuggle with your scent. Beagles also benefit from regular walks and sniffing games. Check washers and dryers before starting them, in case a small dog has hopped in.
Scout will be lifted out, and the clothes will be refolded. The basket will be his seat again by tomorrow.
