Captain Pug Commands the Ship in a Hat That Is a Bit Too Big
Steady as she goes, says the captain, without moving a single wrinkle. A black Pug fills the canvas with his round face, large dark eyes and wonderfully serious expression. His tricorn hat has gold braid along its brim and sits a bit large on his head, and below it his navy coat is trimmed with thick gold bands and a heavy fringed epaulette. A white lace cravat spills from the collar. The dark background gives the captain a stormy night to command.
The more serious he looks, the funnier it gets. The little scrunched brow suggests he has charted every wave, and he might also be hoping that someone will bring a snack to the bridge.
Pugs were bred as companion dogs, and they live up to the name. They are often affectionate, funny and happy to be wherever their people are. Because of their short muzzles, Pugs can have trouble with heat and heavy exercise, so keep walks short and gentle in warm weather, and avoid hot cars and long periods outdoors in summer. Their facial folds should be wiped gently and dried to prevent irritation. Pugs also love to eat, so careful portion control helps keep them at a healthy weight. Your vet can advise on diet, breathing and routine care.
With a captain this determined, the ship is safe. Please just remember to pass the biscuits up to the helm.
