The Marquis Wears a Collar Like a Lace Dinner Plate
His ruff is the size of a dinner plate, and the marquis wears it as though it were nothing. A spotted brown Bengal with bright green eyes sits at the center of a billowing white lace collar, his face sleek and framed with golden stripes. Below, a navy velvet coat is decorated with rows of gold braid and tiny buttons. The warm light picks out every rosette on his cheeks, and the background melts into deep shadow.
The pairing of ruff and cat is a joy. All that fussy lace surrounds a wild-looking face that seems to be plotting some mischief, perhaps an expedition to the top of the royal wardrobe.
Bengals are bright, energetic and often very vocal about what they want. Their short, glossy coat is easy to groom and does not need much more than a weekly brushing, but their minds need plenty of exercise. Interactive toys, climbing trees and puzzle feeders go a long way toward preventing boredom. Many Bengals can learn tricks and even enjoy leash training. They also like to explore high places, so secure windows and breakable decorations deserve a second thought. Ask your vet about vaccines, nutrition and play routines suited to your cat.
The marquis holds his chin high, and the collar holds it even higher. He seems very pleased with the arrangement.
