The Marquis Is a Gentle Black Giant in a Cascade of Lace

AI imagenewfoundlandmarquislace cravat

A big, soft, black face rises above a waterfall of white lace, and the marquis has never looked happier. The Newfoundland has deep brown eyes, a broad forehead and a thick wavy coat, and his heavy ears hang along his cheeks. His pink silk coat is stitched with gold flowers and has puffed shoulders, and an enormous cravat of ruffled lace falls down his chest like snowfall. Behind him, pink drapery and golden carvings blend into a pastel dream.

The black fur against the pink and white is wonderfully dramatic. He seems so gentle and calm that the grand outfit only adds to his charm, as if a very large teddy bear has been invited to a ball.

Newfoundlands are giant, gentle dogs originally bred to help fishermen in Canada, and many have natural water-rescue talents. They have thick, water-resistant coats and webbed paws, and they are known for being patient and sweet-natured with their families. They do drool and shed a good deal, and their dense coats need regular brushing and a cool place to rest in warm weather. They also need space, steady training and a healthy weight to protect their joints. Ask your vet for a care plan.

The marquis will be a perfect guest. Just make sure there is a very big chair, and plenty of room on the dance floor.
