A Tricolor Beagle Duke Looks Dashing and Slightly Distracted
Black ears, a white blaze and rich tan cheeks make this tricolor Beagle a handsome sight in pink velvet. His coat is edged in gold braid, with round gold buttons marching down the front and golden flowers embroidered on the chest, and a frilly white lace cravat sits at his neck. His brown eyes look out with an honest, thoughtful expression, and the pale pink wall behind him is decorated with golden shells and soft clouds, like the inside of a music box. The painter has caught a soft shine on his glossy ears and the velvet of the coat, giving the portrait a warm, lifelike glow.
Beagles are cheerful, social hounds with excellent noses, bred long ago to track small game in packs. They are good with children and other dogs, and they like to be involved in family life. That nose is always working, so a harness, a secure yard and a good recall are all useful. Because Beagles love eating, many gain weight easily, so careful portions and daily walks are very helpful. They also tend to be vocal, with a famous baying howl that tells the neighborhood about everything they find.
The duke looks trustworthy and good-hearted, an excellent governor for any estate. If a rabbit appeared, he would still have to be reminded of his noble duties. For now, he stands stately and serene, a gentleman of pink velvet and gentle manners.
