The Shih Tzu Huntsman Set Out to Hunt and Mostly Looked Dashing
A fluffy black and white face with big dark eyes peers out of a dark green military-style coat. This Shih Tzu huntsman has a little white beard, soft floppy ears and a slightly puzzled but proud expression. His coat is trimmed with gold leaf embroidery on the collar, rows of gold buttons and braided gold epaulettes, and a black cloth is tied at his neck. In the shadowy background, a stone column and olive drapes make the setting feel as if he stands at the edge of an old forest estate.
Shih Tzus were bred as small companions for royalty in China, so a life of luxury is practically in their blood. They are friendly, affectionate and generally cheerful, and they love being close to their people. Their long, silky coat needs daily brushing or a shorter trim, and the hair around the eyes should be kept tidy. Short noses mean they can overheat in warm weather, so cool spaces are a good idea. They enjoy gentle walks and short play sessions, and a vet can help with grooming and dental care.
A huntsman of such small size might be better at finding snacks than game. He seems perfectly calm about it, and he stands tall in his coat with pride. If a duck appeared, he would probably greet it politely and invite it to dinner.
