The Pug King Sat on a Throne Twice His Size and Ruled Calmly
A very small king sits in a very large golden chair. The black Pug wears a gold crown decorated with pink blossoms, and big dark eyes look out from his wrinkled little face. His coat is pink silk embroidered with gold flourishes, trimmed with white ermine and finished with a pink lace jabot. He sits upright on a cushioned throne that curls with gilded roses, his front paws planted neatly at the edge. Behind him, a pastel wall of carved shells and scrolls glows in soft light. It is a very royal pose, and a very serious one.
Pugs are charming, compact dogs with a love of company and a talent for making people laugh. Because of their short noses, they can have trouble breathing in heat or during hard exercise, so keep walks gentle and avoid hot, humid days. They love to eat and gain weight easily, so measure meals and choose healthy treats. Their facial wrinkles should be wiped clean and kept dry. Pugs also tend to snort and snore, which is usually normal, but any trouble breathing deserves a talk with your vet. A harness is usually kinder than a collar.
The king's laws are simple: naps are mandatory, treats are a national right, and every visitor must be greeted with a snort of welcome. His throne may be grand, but his kingdom is content.
