The Saint Bernard Captain Steered the Ship With a Gentle Heart
A gold-edged tricorn hat sits atop a very large head, and the captain looks steadily ahead with soft brown eyes. This red and white Saint Bernard has a broad white blaze, a dark mask, and a thick ruff of white fur at his chest. His navy coat is trimmed with golden braid across the front and shoulders, and a loose white cravat hangs from his neck. A faint candle glows far off at the left, and the dark background makes the whole figure look like it is rising from a stormy sea. His tongue stays politely tucked away, though his jowls hang in classic Saint Bernard style.
Saint Bernards were bred in the Swiss Alps as rescue dogs, and they are known for being gentle, patient, and kind. They are very large, so they need space, sturdy beds, and careful training from puppyhood. Their thick coat makes them uncomfortable in heat, so shade, water, and cool floors are important. They drool, which is normal for the breed, and their facial folds should be wiped clean. Large dogs can have joint problems, so a vet can help with feeding and a safe exercise plan for your dog.
Behind this big, gentle captain, any crew would feel safe. The ship may be small, but the heart on board is enormous. We think the voyage will be calm.
