The Knight Put On His Armor and Looked Ready for Anything
Gleaming silver armor engraved with flowing scrollwork wraps a black Labrador from neck to shoulder, and a crimson velvet cloak embroidered with gold fleurs-de-lis falls across one side. His dark ears hang soft and low, his warm brown eyes look calm and a little hopeful, and the polished metal catches highlights like moonlight on water. Behind him the background is a deep, smoky brown, so the armor seems to be the only bright thing in the room.
It is a handsome study in reflections. The painter had to show how steel mirrors the world around it, with soft grays, warm golds, and a flicker of red from the cloak bouncing across the plates. Knights were favorite portrait subjects because armor signaled courage and loyalty, two things Labradors seem to come by naturally.
Labrador Retrievers have long been among America's most popular family dogs. They are friendly, eager to please, and usually excellent with children. They also love food, so portion control and exercise are important to keep them at a healthy weight. Their short double coat sheds year-round, and most Labs adore water and fetch. Because they are strong and energetic, early training helps. Ask your vet about joint health and diet, especially as your dog gets older.
This knight has probably sworn to protect the kingdom, or at least the sandwiches on the table.
