Two Puppies Sat Between the Tulip Rows Like Professional Garden Models
Spring has sprung in the garden, and so have two very proud puppies. The chocolate and tan Dachshunds sit side by side in the dirt between rows of tulips, pink, red, and buttery yellow blooms swaying above their heads. The pup on the left has a tiny white blaze on its chest, while its sibling leans in close with matching tan eyebrows and a soft, hopeful gaze. Both look straight ahead with round brown eyes, ears flopped forward and paws planted firmly in the soil, as though they've been asked to pose for a garden catalog.
As pretty as they are, tulips aren't a good snack for dogs. The bulbs in particular contain compounds that can cause drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea if chewed, and Dachshunds, being enthusiastic diggers, are more likely than most to unearth them. Other spring favorites, such as daffodils and hyacinths, can also be harmful. If you garden with a puppy, consider fencing off flower beds or using raised planters, and supervise outdoor time closely, especially in spring when bulbs are fresh. Garden products like fertilizer, mulch, and pest control can also be risky. If you think your dog has eaten any part of a bulb or plant, contact your vet.
For now, these two seem content to admire the flowers rather than dig them up. That self-control may not last long, but it certainly makes for a lovely spring moment.
