A Row of Rain Boots by the Mudroom Wall, and Two of Them Are Occupied
A long row of rubber boots stands lined up against the mudroom wall, green, navy, and olive, ready for the next soggy day. Two of them, however, are already occupied. A pair of fluffy fawn puppies have tucked themselves right inside, their heads and front paws poking out over the rims. The pup on the left rests his chin on the edge with a soft, sleepy gaze, while the one on the right sits up a bit higher with his feathery ears spread wide. Coats hang on hooks above, and a succulent sits in a pot on the floor.
It's hard to overstate how small Chihuahuas really are. The breed standard used by major kennel clubs calls for a dog that weighs no more than about six pounds as an adult, and many are even smaller. Puppies, of course, are tinier still, small enough to fit in a boot. You may see some sellers advertise extra-small "teacup" Chihuahuas, but that isn't an official size category, and breeding for extreme smallness can come with health concerns. When looking for a puppy, it's wise to choose a responsible breeder or rescue that focuses on health and temperament rather than size alone.
These two have certainly found boots that fit them perfectly, at least for now. Nobody will be wearing these for a muddy walk anytime soon.
Rainy days just got a lot cuter in this mudroom.
