She Sat on the Bench Like She Was Waiting for the Bus
On a slatted wooden bench, a Blenheim puppy sits upright and a little to one side, gazing off with a quietly serious expression. Her chestnut ears fall in rich waves and her white chest shows clearly against the dark wood. Nearby sit a coffee mug, a remote, and a basket with a plush toy, adding to the homey, lived-in feel.
Teaching a puppy to sit is one of the easiest and most useful first lessons. Hold a small treat near her nose, move it slowly up and back over her head, and as her bottom lowers, say the word and reward her. Keep sessions brief, a few minutes at a time, and end on a success. Cavaliers are eager to please and generally respond well to gentle, reward-based training.
A bench is also a good place to practice calm behavior. Puppies who learn to sit and wait for attention are less likely to jump or bolt, and the habit makes outings easier. Since small puppies can tumble off a bench, stay nearby and keep the height low until she is steady.
This puppy appears to have the sitting part down already. She looks like she is waiting patiently for someone to come back with a treat, or maybe just enjoying a quiet moment alone with her thoughts. Either way, it is a charming picture.
