This Little Chocolate Puppy Climbed a Hay Bale and Declared It Hers
Perched on top of a hay bale like a tiny mountain climber who has reached the summit, a chocolate Havanese puppy looks straight into the room. Her dark curls are a rich brown with a tiny white patch on her chest, and her ears fall in soft waves beside her face. Straw sticks out around the bale, and a laundry basket and a pair of shoes wait in the corner.
Havanese are small dogs with big personalities, and they are usually quick learners. They enjoy having a job, even a simple one, and they often shine at trick training. Short, cheerful sessions with tiny treats work best, and the breed is often eager to please. A puppy with this kind of spark benefits from a bit of mental exercise each day along with a walk or play.
A real hay bale deserves a little caution. Straw and hay can be dusty, and some pups chew or swallow bits of it, which can upset the stomach. Check for sharp stalks, keep the area clean, and brush any loose straw out of that silky coat before it tangles. If your puppy is still too small to jump down safely, stay near and lift her down.
From her perch, she seems to be taking in the entire view. A puppy this small has found the highest point in the house and decided it is hers, at least until someone mentions dinner.
