Five Puppies Found the Biggest Leaf Pile and Made It Their Own
A drift of golden autumn leaves has become a puppy playground. Five black-and-white Havanese puppies are piled together in it, noses to the sky, ears flopped and paws tucked, looking like a bouquet of fluffy flowers among the oak leaves. One sits high on top with a white blaze and a calm gaze, while the rest crowd below in a happy heap. Indoors or out, the pile seems to have been built just for them.
Fall leaves are great fun, but they hide hazards. Wet leaves can carry mold, and piles may hide sticks, thorns, or things puppies should not eat. Some mushrooms and acorns that turn up in autumn are poisonous to dogs, so watch your pups when they are poking around outside, and call your vet if you suspect they swallowed something.
Havanese have a long, silky coat that picks up leaves, burrs, and twigs very easily. After a romp, a gentle brush helps remove tangles before they set, and a check for ticks and bits of debris in the fur is wise, especially around the ears and paws. A trimmed coat can make cleanup much easier.
As for these five, their only concern is whether the pile can hold one more puppy. It seems that the answer in autumn is always yes, and the leaves will crunch along happily.
