Two Puppies Stopped Right at the Pond's Edge and Thought Hard
Two cream puppies sit side by side on a mossy bank at the edge of a small pond. One looks straight ahead with an alert, serious expression, while the other turns toward the water, as if it has heard something interesting. Behind them, a wooden fence and some bare branches frame the scene, and the damp earth is dotted with floating leaves.
Ponds are fascinating to curious puppies, but they come with risks. Banks can be slippery, the water can hide hazards, and stagnant ponds sometimes contain algae that are dangerous for dogs. Always supervise a puppy near water, keep her on a leash when exploring, and ask your vet about local concerns before letting her drink or swim.
A Havanese was bred as a companion, so it does not usually need long hikes, but it does enjoy short walks and the chance to sniff around. These small outings also help puppies become confident in new places. Keep the first trips short, watch the weather, and follow your vet's advice on vaccinations before visiting places other dogs use.
These two seem to be doing exactly what they should. They sit at a safe distance, with all four paws on solid ground, and take in the view. The pond stays still, and so do they, as if both have agreed that today is for looking and not for splashing.
