A Small Puppy Spotted a Yellow Butterfly and Took Off Across the Lawn
A black-and-white puppy bounds across a sunny lawn with one front paw lifted mid-step, and a small yellow butterfly flutters near the top corner of the frame. Her long fur flows with the movement, her ears flop, and her bright eyes follow something just out of reach. A wooden fence and a few potted plants line the background, and the grass is lit by low gold light.
Chasing butterflies is a classic puppy pastime, and it is good exercise. Havanese are lively, playful dogs, and they enjoy short bursts of running followed by cuddles. A secure yard helps, because a puppy that spots something interesting may dash after it, so check the fence and never let a young dog off leash in an unfenced area.
After outdoor play, take a minute to check the coat. Havanese fur collects grass seeds and burrs, which can tangle and irritate the skin, and ticks can hide in the long hair. A gentle brush and a quick look at the ears, paws, and belly are enough. Your vet can recommend parasite prevention that suits your region.
As for the butterfly, it will probably escape. That does not seem to bother the puppy, who is having too much fun running to mind. The chase is the whole point, and the lawn has never looked happier.
