The Weimaraner Puppy Claimed the Basket of Clean Laundry
Fresh from the dryer, the laundry basket is now occupied. A silver Weimaraner puppy sits among the warm clothes with a soft, serious gaze, one big paw draped over the wicker rim. The jeans, towels, and a black shirt make a lumpy cushion, and a sofa and a houseplant fill in the living room behind.
Dogs are drawn to laundry for a simple reason: it smells like their favorite people. Clothes that were just worn are packed with familiar scents, and curling up in them can be very comforting. A basket also gives a puppy a snug, enclosed spot. It is generally harmless, but keep an eye out for socks, buttons, and small items that a puppy could chew and swallow, because those can cause real trouble. Clothes with strings or elastic are worth watching too.
Weimaraners are famously people-oriented, and many will follow family members from room to room. A puppy that settles in the laundry pile may simply be keeping as close to its person as possible. Offering a dedicated bed in the same room where the family spends time can satisfy that need for closeness without costing anybody a sweater.
Folding can wait. When a puppy gives you that look from the basket, you can be forgiven for a short delay. The clothes will still be warm when the nap is over, and probably a little furrier too.
