Three Weimaraner Puppies Wait Politely at a Bowl That's Almost Overflowing
Dinner has been served, and three silver Weimaraner puppies are very aware of it. They sit around a wide cream bowl heaped with brown kibble, noses pointing toward it and ears hanging forward. One pup looks into the camera as if to say something about the portions, while another leans over the rim. A few stray pieces have already escaped onto the floor.
Feeding puppies takes a bit of planning. Growing puppies need a food made for their life stage, and Weimaraners, as a large breed, are often fed a formula designed for large-breed puppies. Meals are usually split into several small portions per day instead of one big one. Because this breed has a deep chest, vets often advise against heavy exercise right after eating and suggest feeding calmly. Ask your vet about the right amounts and schedule.
When several puppies share a bowl, it can help to set out separate dishes so that shy eaters get their share and nobody learns to guard food. Teaching a pup to sit and wait before dinner builds good manners, too. Fresh water should always be available. Treats are fine in moderation, but they should not crowd out balanced meals.
These three look patient enough for the moment. That bowl, however, will not stay full for long, and they all seem to know it.
