One Bernese Puppy Disappeared Into a Giant Knit Sweater
Wrapped in a huge cream cable-knit sweater, a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy peers out with a soft, sleepy look. Its black ears flop forward, a white blaze runs down its nose, and a small rust-brown paw rests on the knit. Jeans, a basket of yarn, and a few household odds and ends lie scattered across the floor behind.
Many dogs love to nest in clothing that smells like their people. The scent is reassuring, especially for young puppies who are still getting used to a new home. A sweater or old shirt can make a good comfort item, as long as the puppy doesn't chew it. Loose yarn can be swallowed and cause blockages, so supervise closely and swap the item out if it starts to unravel.
Bernese Mountain Dogs have thick, long coats and love cooler weather, so a woolly nest may not be as necessary for them as for a short-haired dog, though puppies still enjoy the coziness. They are known for their calm temperament and for being devoted to their families. Brushing a few times a week helps keep that coat healthy, and early grooming practice with treats makes it easy later.
The sweater is far too large for the puppy, which only makes it better. It forms a perfect woolly cave, and the pup is clearly in no hurry to leave it.
