Three Bernese Puppies Each Grabbed a Piece of the Same Rope
Three Bernese Mountain Dog puppies hold the same piece of rope between their teeth, noses pressed together and paws planted on a woven mat. The one on the left has its face turned toward the others, the middle pup looks straight ahead, and the third watches with bright, curious eyes. A sofa, a houseplant, and a doorway fill the room behind.
Rope toys are a popular choice for dogs. They are good for chewing, tugging, and keeping a teething pup busy. The main thing to watch is wear and tear, because frayed strands can be swallowed and cause digestive trouble. Check rope toys regularly and throw them away once they start to unravel. Always supervise play, particularly with several puppies at once.
Sharing a toy teaches puppies about each other. They learn to read body language, take turns, and notice when a playmate has had enough. Bernese Mountain Dog puppies are typically gentle and easygoing, but when each puppy has its own toy, there is less chance of a tug-of-war turning into a squabble. Having several toys around helps with that.
The three of them are busy and happy, and the rope is firmly held by everyone. Sharing seems to be going well, at least for the moment. Soon one will win the rope and trot off, with the others hurrying behind to see what comes next.
