Two Saint Bernard Puppies Sat Quietly Among the Pumpkins

Two Saint Bernard puppies sit side by side in a pumpkin patch, their round white chests and red-brown ears glowing in the afternoon light. Orange pumpkins of various sizes dot the ground around them, and curling vines and green leaves wind between their paws. A weathered wooden fence stands behind them, and the pups gaze toward the camera with soft, sweet expressions.

Pumpkin season is fun for dogs, but it comes with a few cautions. Plain, cooked pumpkin is often safe in small amounts, but raw stems, vines, and rotting pumpkins can upset a dog's stomach, and moldy ones can be dangerous. Carved pumpkins with candles are a fire risk and a burn hazard. If your puppy eats something questionable, call your vet.

Saint Bernards were bred in the Swiss Alps and are known for a calm, patient nature. These two are young enough that they are still all paws and ears, but they will grow into one of the largest dog breeds. Because of that, gentle training from the start is important, along with meals planned for a big-breed puppy and moderate exercise as they grow.

The pups look perfectly at ease among the pumpkins. They are as round as the pumpkins themselves, and almost as orange in the golden light. If one of them rolls off a pumpkin, the others will probably follow, and the whole patch will soon be full of happy, tumbling fluff.
