Four Saint Bernard Puppies Fell Asleep in One Cardboard Box
Four Saint Bernard puppies have piled into a big cardboard box and fallen asleep. Their red-brown ears, white blazes, and round faces are tucked together, with one pup's chin resting on another's back. The box has torn edges and folded flaps, and a wooden floor, a mat, and a pair of slippers lie nearby.
Puppies and boxes are a classic pair. The enclosed space feels safe, and the cardboard is warm and easy to chew. The downside is the chewing. Small cardboard pieces swallowed in quantity can upset a puppy's stomach, and tape or staples are dangerous. Check the box before giving it to puppies, remove anything sharp, and replace it when it is shredded.
Sleeping together is natural for littermates. They keep each other warm and feel secure. A litter of Saint Bernards can grow quickly, and a box that fits four pups today will be too small in a few weeks. These dogs eventually become giants, with thick bodies and big paws, so the bed will need an upgrade soon.
For now, the cardboard box is their palace. The four are deep in sleep, and it would take quite an event to wake them. Cardboard dreams are a serious matter, and the soft, even breathing of four small chests is the only sound in the room. Tomorrow they will outgrow this bed, but tonight it is plenty.
