Three Saint Bernard Puppies Held the Same Rope and Didn't Let Go
Three Saint Bernard puppies stand shoulder to shoulder, all biting the same thick, knotted rope. Their red-brown ears hang down, their white paws stand out against the gray wooden floor, and their faces are fixed in serious concentration. A window and a plant on the right, and a few shoes in the background, frame the scene.
Rope toys are a favorite for chewing and tug games, and they can help with teething. The key is to choose a size that suits the dog. For giant breeds like the Saint Bernard, a thick rope is best, since thin ropes can be swallowed. Inspect them often and throw away any that start to unravel, because loose threads can be eaten and cause trouble.
Tug games should be gentle with puppies, because their necks and teeth are still developing. Pulling too hard, or lifting a puppy by the toy, can cause injury. Teach a drop cue and take breaks. Saint Bernards are usually gentle and patient, but even they can get carried away when a toy is on the line.
These three seem to be sharing nicely, with everyone holding on and nobody winning. It's a calm sort of tug-of-war. Eventually the rope will go slack, and one pup will wander off with it while the others follow, but for this moment the knot holds firm.
