Two Tiny Saint Bernard Puppies Fit Into One Pair of Hands
Two very small Saint Bernard puppies are held up in a pair of gentle hands, their faces close together and their dark eyes soft. They are still tiny enough to fit in a person's grip, with round bellies, big white paws, and ears that have not yet learned to stand or flop with any confidence. Behind them, a living room with scattered toys and a basket glows in warm light.
It is hard to believe that puppies this small will grow into some of the largest dogs in the world. Saint Bernards can weigh well over a hundred pounds as adults, and they grow quickly. That is why feeding a diet made for large-breed puppies and avoiding too much strenuous exercise early on are so important. Your vet can help plan their growth.
When you hold a young puppy, support the chest and the back legs, keep it low, and handle it gently. Wash your hands first, since tiny pups are more sensitive to germs. Keep handling sessions short and calm so the puppy is comfortable. Gentle early handling helps puppies grow into relaxed dogs who are used to being touched at the vet and groomer.
For now, these two are small enough to be held up like treasures, and they look quite pleased to be admired. It is a lovely reminder of how fast the time goes, and how much fur there will be later.
