Two Puppies Sat Down on the Bench Like They Were Waiting for a Bus
Two red and white Border Collie puppies have taken a seat on a wooden slatted bench, sitting shoulder to shoulder like a pair of very small, very serious guests. Their paws are neatly together, their chests are bright white, and their dark eyes follow something that must be extremely interesting just off to one side. Behind them, sheer curtains glow with sunlight.
Sitting politely is one of the first things many puppies learn, and Border Collies tend to pick it up quickly. The best approach is to hold a small treat just above the pup's nose, move it back slightly, and reward the moment the bottom touches the floor. Keep lessons short, a few minutes at a time, and always end on a success. Consistency from everyone in the household helps a puppy understand what is being asked.
It is a good reminder that Border Collies thrive on interaction. They tend to bond closely with their people, and they do best when they have regular attention, exercise and something to think about. A bored Border Collie may invent games of its own, like herding the kids, so giving them training and puzzle toys is a gift to both dog and owner.
These two look ready for a lesson at any moment. If someone brings a treat, they will probably sit even straighter, and probably at exactly the same time.
