Two Pups Planted Themselves in a Terracotta Flower Pot
The flower pot is only meant for one plant, but two red and white Border Collie puppies have decided that it can handle two puppies. They sit side by side in the terracotta pot with their front paws on the rim, their heads tilted in the same direction, and a little soil on their white socks. Behind them the room is a mix of blankets, flip-flops and unfinished chores.
A pot of soil can be a very attractive spot for a puppy, and it is worth knowing why to be careful. Potting mixes may contain fertilizers or other additives that are not meant to be eaten, and many houseplants can upset a dog's stomach or worse. If your pup is a digger or a nibbler, keep plants up high and offer a sandbox or a digging area where it is safe to dig. If you suspect your dog has eaten something harmful, call your vet.
Digging is a natural puppy behavior, and Border Collies, being energetic and curious, can be enthusiastic diggers when bored. Plenty of play, walks and training tends to reduce unwanted digging, and a pup who has done something interesting with his day is more likely to nap than redecorate the garden.
The two in the pot seem happy to share. Whatever grows next in there will have to be pretty special to beat this pair.
