Two Border Collie Puppies Claimed the Only Warm Spot in the House
A narrow beam of sunlight has crossed the hardwood floor, and two blue merle Border Collie puppies have settled right in the middle of it. They lie nose to nose, chins down, their speckled gray and charcoal coats looking almost like marble. One puppy still has a sleepy eye open, as if checking that the warm spot isn't about to disappear.
Blue merle is a coat pattern that gives Border Collies those smoky patches of gray, black and silver. Merle puppies can have eyes that are blue, brown, or even one of each, and their colors sometimes shift a little as they grow up. Whatever the coat, the breed is famous for brains and energy, which is why a Border Collie pup who is napping this hard has probably earned it.
Young puppies sleep far more than most people expect, often most of the day, in short stretches between bursts of play. That rest is when they recover and grow, so a quiet, sunny corner like this one is worth protecting. If you share your home with a puppy, a cozy spot away from foot traffic helps a lot, and your vet can tell you what a healthy sleep routine looks like for your pup's age.
For now the biggest job on these two schedules is staying warm. The sunbeam will slowly slide across the boards, and sooner or later they will wriggle along behind it, one sleepy shuffle at a time.
